“Without the oddballs in this world, life would be a dull and colorless place.”

Phat Kandi was born in the summer of 2019 by fashion designer and digital artist Mel Williams “a self-certified misfit who lives and breathes fashion and art.”

Never one to fit in, and always with a pencil in hand as a kid, Mel was obsessed with creating fashion designs while binge watching cartoon shows such as The Smurfs and Mr. Men.

“I created Phat Kandi for the love of the outsiders, the rule breakers, and the square pegs. I resonate with how that feels. Without the oddballs in this world, life would be a dull and colorless place.”

“I describe my designs as cute and morbid with a bittersweet edge, heavily influenced by the fashion tribes from the Harajuku region of Japan. I also gravitate towards kawaii art, iconic symbols, pop culture and adore bold statement pieces that scream out individuality.”

Phat Kandi is available for all, regardless of age or gender, highlighting freedom of expression through digital art and fashion.

Joining Mel in her quest to entertain and engage through Phat Kandi, with a thirteen years’ experience in consumer products and licensing background, is Jacqueline Hofman. Always looking to build a brand and help brand owners find their way within the licensing industry.

“When Mel approached me to join her and her amazing Phat Kandi creation/brand, it was a no brainer for me to jump on board. It appealed to me not only in its very distinct soulful signature.”

“I have always felt like an oddball, have been told I was a dreamer and am a self-proclaimed misfit. Perhaps that is why I fell in love with Phat Kandi right off the bat.”
